How Charlotte metro — and nearby destinations — rank as a spots for summer travel

Now that Memorial Day weekend has arrived and with it, the official start of the busy summer travel season, it’s time to start planning a getaway.

WalletHub, the personal financial website, has come out with a ranking of the top travel destinations this summer.The study analyzed 100 of the largest metro areas using 40 key indicators, including travel costs, weather and attractions. The report focuses on the affordability of the locations, along with the cost and convenience of traveling to each location.

Charlotte comes in around the middle of the pack, at No. 51.
