How many ICU beds are in Mecklenburg County?

MECKLENBURG COUNTY, N.C. — More than half the counties in America have no intensive care beds, creating a particularly dangerous situation for more than 7 million people who are age 60 and up and at an increased risk for the coronavirus, according to Kaiser Health News.

Kaiser Health News analyzed reports filed with the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services. It found, out of the counties with ICU beds nationwide, the average number of people 60 or older per bed is 1,300.

Channel 9 looked up the data for Mecklenburg County and found it has 173 ICU beds. There is an average of 905 people 60 and up living in the county per bed.
