MOORESVILLE, N.C. — Developers are aiming squarely at millennials with an $18 million apartment and commercial building on the site of a 126-year-old textile mill in downtown Mooresville.
With a working name of Mill One on Church Street, the 2.3-acre site was rezoned by the Mooresville Board of Commissioners last week in preparation for 90 apartments on three floors of what investors say will be 33,000 square feet of commercial space. Their plans are for a brewpub, restaurants and other commercial uses, says Brad Howard, president and principal of Langtree Group, which is developing the site.
Howard believes the new construction will encourage other development in downtown.
"Mill One (the original 1893 textile mill) was the catalyst to bring other textile manufacturing to Mooresville," he says. "Now it will be the catalyst to bring food" and other uses to a 21st century Mooresville.
