How this local doughnut shop is changing tactics amid COVID-19 crisis

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Courtney Buckley, owner of Your Mom’s Donuts, has built a following for a never-ending repertoire of doughnut flavors — not necessarily an essential item amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

But Buckley also has a love for local food purveyors and determination to make a difference. She’s turned the Matthews-based doughnut shop into a local grocery store, selling everything from mushrooms and microgreens to meats, fresh-cut flowers and pantry staples such as whole wheat flour, grits and peach-pie jam. There’s also frozen dishes such as empanadas, deep-dish chicken pot pie, Mediterranean quiches and macaroni and cheese casserole.

Buckley provides doughnuts and fresh-baked bread; She took over Carolina Artisan Bread last year and continues to grow that brand.
