Hundreds gather in Morganton at service for slain teen

BURKE COUNTY, N.C. — Hundreds came together Wednesday in Morganton to remember Anthony Frazier, 14, who was killed Jan. 2 in east Charlotte, while police still search for the killer.

Frazier was visiting family in Charlotte and also had a lot of family in Morganton, where he was laid to rest.

The memorial service was at one of the largest churches in Morganton, First Presbyterian Church.

The teen was in Morganton in November.

"He come here on Thanksgiving,” his aunt, Teresa Branch, said. “He always come on the holidays with us, and I gave him everything he wanted."

"He never met a stranger,” Frazier’s uncle, Steven Butler, said. “He loved everybody. He loved caring for people for life for then himself."

Police said Frazier was shot in the head after celebrating his birthday and returning to an aunt's home in east Charlotte.

Investigators believed two young men were hiding in some bushes, and when they ran off, one fired into the car, shattering a window and striking the boy.

"He needs to come forward and admit to what he did," Branch said.

Police from Kannapolis were at the service. Frazier’s father has worked at the police department for the last two years.

"He never said a cross word to anyone,” Butler said. “As far as why this happened, it's senseless, and there's a lot of unanswered questions that we would like to have answered"

Family members said Frazier is still helping others, because he was an organ donor.

Police are offering a $15,000 reward in the case.
