‘I was excited’: Local family surprised after linking generations decades apart

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Even with the pandemic, 2020 was still a big year for the Charlotte area.

The latest population numbers show that the Charlotte metro area grew by almost 4% last year. The metro area is now home to more than 2.1 million people.

With the rapid growth, it’s hard to remember what life was like just two generations ago.

A pastor who moved into a home in south Charlotte several years ago started to look for his family’s roots and found they were closer than he ever imagined.
