International soccer match to kick off busy year at Bank of America Stadium - Canceled

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Update: Due to the new travel restrictions in the United States because of the COVID-19 outbreak, Soccer United Marketing in coordination with the Mexican Football Federation (FMF) has announced that the Mexican National Team’s MEXTOUR March matches have been cancelled.

David Tepper promised to bring more events to Bank of America Stadium when he bought the Carolina Panthers in 2018. The team owner is meeting those expectations as 2020 is shaping up as the busiest in the stadium’s 25-year history.

Since the Panthers missed the playoffs, it didn’t start with any post-season NFL games. Instead, the stadium’s new year begins with another football team. Or, rather, a futbol team. The Mexican National Team will play the Czech Republic in an international soccer friendly here in March.

It will be Mexico’s fifth appearance at the NFL stadium since 2010. The match begins at 8:30 p.m. on March 26. Tickets are $30 to $250.

“We’re really looking forward to playing in Charlotte,” Mexican Federation president Yon de Luisa told CBJ during a recent phone interview. “Being there several times (before), it’s always nice to meet again there with our fan base. … We’re really looking forward to returning to that market.”

A day-of-game fan festival and other tie-in events typically accompany Team Mexico’s tour matches in each city.
