Police said Willie Clark Peck III, of Salisbury, was killed. Two others were taken to the hospital and were in stable condition, one with a gunshot wound to his leg and the other with a wound to his back.

Authorities said the scene at 351 Union Cemetery Road is a business space rented for private parties.

Detectives told Channel 9 a party was promoted by someone from Charlotte, but around 1:30 a.m., an altercation broke out and someone opened fire.

Police said they cleared the scene and found two people who had been shot. Police said Peck showed up later at a hospital, where he died.

A neighbor told Channel 9's DaShawn Brown that people ran into the neighborhood to hide from the gunshots.

"We were really scared. I have a daughter, my grandbabies. I'm glad they weren't here," Dora Dellatore said.

Darrell Black, who lives nearby, said a bullet struck his car.

“We thought it might escalate to something later on that night and it did,” Black said. “We might want to move because we're really scared now.”

Jackson was charged with murder and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
