Iredell County Sheriff says his deputies wouldn't hesitate in active shooter situation

IREDELL COUNTY, N.C. — After criticism of how a school resource officer responded to the shooting that took the life of 17 people inside a Florida school, the Iredell County Sheriff said his deputies wouldn’t hesitate to run into harm’s way.

In a Facebook post, Sheriff Darren Campbell said he has confidence in the training and dedication of his deputies.

Campbell said any deputy faced with a similar threat would be the first to go inside a school and eliminate that threat.

The post comes after four deputies stationed outside Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida did not go inside the school during the mass shooting.

Authorities said one deputy was not only armed and in uniform, but also knew there was an active shooter on school grounds.
