JCSU recognized for leading sustainability practices

CHARLOTTE — During Johnson C. Smith University’s President’s Reception on Saturday, Toyota recognized JCSU and its President Dr. Ronald Carter for leading sustainability practices.

Through its Sustainability Village, green energy curriculum and upcoming Center for Renewable Energy, JCSU exemplifies the mission of the Toyota Green Initiative (TGI)—an environmental stewardship program designed to empower the African-American community.

TGI has traveled to historically black colleges and universities encouraging students and faculty to adopt an eco-friendly lifestyle since 2010. As a member of the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association, JCSU received a one-year lease of a Toyota Prius liftback donated in conjunction with the 2013-14 TGI tour.
