Woman charged with threatening Kohl’s employees with gun turns herself in

MATTHEWS, N.C. — Police say a woman who is accused of walking into a Matthews Kohl’s and threatening employees with a gun has turned herself in.

Authorities were called around 5 p.m. Monday to the store on East Independence Boulevard to search for 39-year-old Yolanda Cunningham but she left before officers arrived.

Cunningham faces several charges, including communicating threats and going armed to the terror of the public.

Police said no shots were fired during the incident. The store was evacuated, and there were no injuries reported.

Matthews police said Cunningham turned herself in to the Mecklenburg County Jail Tuesday night.
