‘Clean this place up’: Lancaster residents fed up after 3 shootings in 6 days

LANCASTER, S.C. — Neighbors in Lancaster are upset after three shootings over six days happened within blocks of each other.

The most recent shooting was on Tuesday night and sent a man to the hospital with serious injuries. Police said they have no motives and have not made an arrest yet.

The area where the shootings happened is full of retired families who said they are fed up with the violence.

Air Force veteran and Reverend Franklin Truesdale grew up in the community. He remembered what he was doing Monday night just before 8 p.m. when shots rang out on North Gregory Street.

“I was sitting here, watching television, minding my own business,” Truesdale said. “I told the police I heard three gunshots, but it was four casings out there in the road.”

Two men were hit by the gunfire and rushed to the hospital.

Monday’s shooting happened just blocks away from another one on Friday night. In that case, police said someone fired more than 30 shots near Saint Paul and North Hughes Streets. Some of the bullets hit a car with people inside.

Even though dozens of homes are also in the area, nobody was hurt in the incident.

Then on Tuesday, according to a police report, a man at the nearby Pardue Street apartments was shot. He was hurt so badly that he was flown to the hospital.

Truesdale said he thinks it will take more involvement from police to stop the violence.

“I think the police need to clean this place up,” he said.

Other neighbors who did not want to talk on camera agreed with him.

Police said they have regularly patrolled the area and that they are doing what they can to make it safe, but they need help from the community to help solve these crimes.

Lancaster police told Channel 9 they do not believe any of the incidents are connected at this point.
