LINCOLN COUNTY, N.C. — There is now a legal fight after Lincoln County’s only DMV license plate agency shut down.
[PAST COVERAGE: DMV attributes long lines to staffing, tech issues, Real ID]
The state DMV doesn’t own the agency, which is outsourced to a private company.
One of the owners of the company died last month, so the DMV canceled its contract.
The owner’s son also owns the business and claims the contract is still good, so he is suing the DMV.
A judge issued a temporary restraining order so the office can stay open in the meantime.
