Caldwell Co. home hit by lightning, $200K in damage

CALDWELL COUNTY, N.C. — A lightning strike is being blamed for a fire in Caldwell County that heavily damaged a home south of Lenoir Wednesday night.

Fire investigators said that fire caused more than $200,000 of damage to the home on Union Grove Road.

They said the lightning struck the chimney and then traveled down to the roof.

Investigators checked with the National Weather Service and according to the GPS location of the home, found there was a strike at that time.

No injuries were reported.
