Lincoln County deputy undergoes emergency surgery after head-on crash

LINCOLN COUNTY, N.C. — The Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office said one of its deputies is recovering from emergency surgery after a head-on crash Wednesday afternoon.

Officials said Deputy Shannon Bridges was responding to a 911 hang-up call along East NC Highway 27 in his patrol car. They said he crashed head-on with a Honda Odyssey van when he went to turn into a driveway.

They said Bridges and another deputy helped the driver, who was pinned in the van with leg injuries. She was taken to the hospital for treatment.

Authorities said Bridges began having chest pains and was also taken to the hospital. They said he had a lacerated artery and internal bleeding and underwent surgery.

The Sheriff’s Office said the surgery was successful and Bridges is recovering.

The North Carolina Highway Patrol is investigating the accident.
