Lincolnton woman sentenced to 3 years for stolen tax refunds

LINCOLNTON, N.C. — A woman in Lincolnton who helped steal millions of dollars in tax returns is going to prison for three years.

A federal judge sentenced Ari-Leyda Amparo earlier this week.

Prosecutors said she was part of a group that stole tax refund checks from Puerto Rican residents by taking their social security numbers.

Five other people have been sentenced in the case.
