Local company to make hand sanitizer with new disinfectant ingredient

KANNAPOLIS, N.C. — If you’ve been to the grocery store or pharmacy in the last month, you know hand sanitizer is pretty much impossible to find, thanks to the COVID-19 crisis.

There are two types of alcohol that are the key ingredients in hand sanitizer. Now, the FDA has added another called Benzalkonium Chloride to the list, eligible for over the counter use.

Channel 9 spoke with a Kannapolis company that is stepping up, saying they want to help protect people from the germs we can’t see.
