Local group works to combat potential environmental impacts of pandemic

We’re all at home more these days, and maybe you’ve had free time on your hands so you’ve cleaned out your old guest bedroom or garage.

It’s convenient, but there are concerns about the rapidly growing waste in landfills across the region.

“We’re seeing on average about 23,000 more customers per month than we did this time last year,” Director of Solid Waste for Mecklenburg County said. “I attribute it to many things. People are cleaning things out at home. They are cleaning up the brush, cutting down the trees they want to get to. A whole lot of reasons.”
