Police: Local high school student shot, killed

CONCORD, N.C. — On Monday night, Eyewitness News spoke to the family and schoolmates of a teen shot to death in Concord.

Mark Bostic, 15, died after being rushed to the hospital on Sunday night.

Now his mother is calling for justice.

Bostic was a sophomore at Robinson High School in Concord.

At the school, counselors were on hand, but students were comforting each other after hearing the news during the school's morning announcements.

"Everybody just loved him. He was my baby and I want my baby back," said Surecka Bostic.

She said her 15-year-old son loved school, sports and people.

Coming to grips with his death has been beyond difficult for the entire family, including Mark's 5-year-old brother.

Police said it happened around 10 p.m. Sunday. The teen was in a car in the area of Corban Avenue and Crowell Drive in Concord.

Surecka said that he was with his cousin and some others when another car pulled behind them and started shooting.

Bostic was hit by a bullet. He was rushed to Northeast Medical Center in Concord, where he died.

Hospital officials said they locked down the hospital for safety reasons after a number of people showed up.

Surecka said that everyone there was family, not anyone involved in the crime.

At Bostic's school there was a moment of silence during the morning announcements on Monday.

After school, students painted two large stones in his honor. One said RIP Tank, Bostic's nickname, and the other said RIP Team Bostic.

"Eyewitness News heard the news in the announcements and it was very, very tough," said senior Ford Martin.

"It has just been a somber day. Even if you did not know him, you would have been somehow affected by it," said senior Brandon Sang.

Mark's mother said the condolences and love are appreciated, but she wants something more.

"I want justice, whoever did it," she said.

Police have not made any arrests connected to the case at this time.
