Local churches react after deadly Easter Sunday explosions in Sri Lanka

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Thousands of Christians in the Charlotte area woke up on Easter Sunday to the news hundreds were killed and even more injured after explosions ripped through churches and hotels in Sri Lanka.

Now, several churches are working to figure out what they can do to help the families and victims.

Laura Proto, an attendee at Saint Peter's in uptown, said the congregation spent a moment reflecting and praying after the devasting attacks in Sri Lanka.

"They acknowledged it in mass and we prayed for the victims that lost their lives, and the families that were torn apart by the hatred and intolerance," Proto said. "It's disheartening, but we have to remember today is a new day to be a better person, to act with kindness, and to teach our children acceptance. That's the most important thing that I try to do every day."
