Locals help elderly during coronavirus pandemic

CHARLOTTE — Experts have asked all people, especially the elderly and those with compromised immune systems to avoid public places.

Channel 9 found some local heroes Tuesday who are reaching out to groups in need to offer help.

Lauren Markoe and others have taken to social media apps, such as Nextdoor and Facebook. They are offering to help pick up groceries and run errands for people who can’t leave the house.

“Let's stick together. Let’s do this together, and we'll get through it,” said Markoe.

Dominic Brown is the owner of Charlotte Veteran Movers. He also offered one of his trucks to help pick up groceries for elderly neighbors and food banks.

They said they have gotten a lot of support from the community and some requests to help.

“We’re just interested in being able to be a helping hand to the community,” said Brown.
