Man accused of robbing 6 fast food restaurants across York County

YORK COUNTY, S.C. — A man has been arrested following a string of fast food restaurant robberies across York County.

50-year-old Travis Lamont Gathers is accused in two armed robberies in Rock Hill, three in Lake Wylie and one in Fort Mill. He was arrested Monday at an apartment complex in Lake Wylie.

“I am thankful and proud of the hard work our deputies and detectives put in to identify this dangerous person as a suspect and get him in custody quickly before anyone got seriously got hurt,” Sheriff Kevin Tolson said.

Deputies believe Gathers began the armed robbery spree on June 28 after robbing the Bojangles on Charlotte Highway in Lake Wylie. In that case, he took money and employees’ cellphones before making the workers get into a walk-in cooler.

On July 10, he robbed the Wendy’s on Highway 160 in Fort Mill and two days later, he robbed the Wendy’s on Charlotte Highway in Lake Wylie.

In all the cases witnesses said Gathers used a gun to commit the robberies.

The most recent robbery happened on Sunday when investigators said he used a knife to rob the McDonald’s on Charlotte Highway in Lake Wylie.

In total, deputies said Gathers stole $6,350 from the restaurants.

He was booked into the York County Detention Center and is currently waiting on a bond hearing and possibly more charges.
