• Man charged with statutory rape after teen gives birth

    CHARLOTTE, N.C.,None - A 35-year-old man faces statutory rape charges after a 14-year-old girl gave birth, police said.

    Officers were called to an apartment off Mont Carmel Lane Sunday after the teenage girl gave birth there, police said. She told officers that the father of the newborn is a man who lived in her neighborhood, according to police.

    Police then interviewed Juan Martinez Hernandez, who admitted to engaging in sexual intercourse with the victim on several occasions, according to police.

    Hernandez was arrested and charged with four counts of statutory rape and two counts of indecent liberties with a child.  He remains in the custody of the Mecklenburg County Sheriff's Office and is being held under a $250,000 bail.
