Man charged with stealing guns, leading deputies on chase in Lincoln Co.; Authorities searching for 2nd suspect

LINCOLN COUNTY, N.C. — Lincoln County deputies have arrested a man and are searching for another accused of stealing guns and leading deputies on a chase.

Authorities said they were checking a suspicious vehicle Friday morning at a Quiktrip on Highway 73 in Denver when they noticed a piece of cloth covering the license plate.

The driver also got out of the vehicle wearing a black mask covering the face and head, plastic gloves, a hoodie and sweatpants.

While a deputy was checking the driver’s ID, another deputy said they smelled marijuana in the vehicle. They searched the car and found two guns behind the driver’s seat.

The passenger than ran away and the driver jumped back in the vehicle and drove away. Deputies chased the car before it crashed into a tree near Zaxby’s restaurant.

The driver, Tommy-David Ndongo Boronse, 22, was arrested, but the second suspect, Derico Devonta Misenhaimer, 23, got away from police.

Authorities learned one of the guns was stolen out of Charlotte. They also found credit cards and ID of a Catawba County man in the vehicle.

Deputies went to the man’s home and found two vehicles that had been broken into. They said two pistols and a laptop had been stolen.

Boronse was charged with felony fleeing and eluding with a motor vehicle, possession of a firearm by a felon, two counts of possession of a stolen firearm, possession of a controlled substance, resist, delaying and obstructing a public officer, possession of a controlled substance (Schedule I), driving while license revoked, and careless and reckless driving.

Misenhaimer is facing charges for two counts of felony possession of a stolen firearm, possession of a firearm by a felon, felony possession of a Schedule I controlled substance, and misdemeanor resist, delay and obstructing a public officer.

Boronse is being held at the Harven A. Crouse Detention Center with bail set at $55,000. Misenhaimer has not been arrested at this point.
