16-year-old dies days after being shot in north Charlotte, police says

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Charlotte-Mecklenburg police said a 16-year-old has died days after being shot in north Charlotte.

Around 1 a.m. on April 24, officers were called to the scene on Catalina Avenue, between North Graham Street and North Tryon Street.

Police said they found Javion Sanders who had been shot inside a home nearby.

He was rushed to Atrium Health’s Carolinas Medical Center in critical condition, according to authorities.

Officers said Sanders died Monday due to his injuries.

Officials said a 16-year-old has been charged with the shooting after he turned himself in to police. Police said he was initially charged with assault with a deadly weapon with the intent to kill inflicting serious injury. Officers said he may face additional charges.

No other details have been released.
