Man drowns after falling into Pee Dee River while fishing

CHERAW, S.C. — The Chesterfield County coroner has identified a man who fell from a boat Wednesday and drowned in the Pee Dee River.

Officials said 63-year-old Lorne Carlson died after falling from the boat along the river in Cheraw. He was fishing at the time.

Witnesses called 911 but Carlson was pronounced dead at the scene.

An autopsy is scheduled Thursday to determine if a medical condition caused him to fall into the water.
