'We heard this big boom': Man fires gun inside CVS during hold up

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — A man fired a gun inside a CVS Pharmacy Monday night during a robbery, the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department said.

It happened at 7:45 p.m. at the store on Kendall Drive, which is off Morris Chapel Road in west Charlotte.

A witness said she saw the man walk into the store with his face covered. She also said he had a duffel bag in his hands and immediately started reaching into the bag when he walked in.

Police said they are looking for the suspect they described as 5 feet, 8 inches tall with a slim build, and he was wearing a black bandana, hoodie, black and white sneakers and carrying a blue and gray duffel bag.

It's unclear how many customers were in the store at the time, but a woman said she was in line with a few people when she heard the gunshot.

"I was standing in line with about four other ladies, and then we heard this big boom," the woman said. "A loud noise, which sounded to all four of us like a gunshot. Nobody waited. Nobody went to see what was going on. We cleared the store."

No one was injured, police said.

Officers and a K-9 unit tried to find the thief but no arrests have been made.
