Man has 129 criminal charges dismissed

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — A man has had 129 criminal charges against him dismissed.

Some say it’s an example of a failure in the court system.

Legal experts said most of the charges are minor offenses that would typically be dismissed, but Kentrell Jamarcus Massey has more serious cases that are pending, so prosecutors can’t discuss those cases.

"I would say the fault lies at just about everybody's doorstep,” said Cheryl Jones, with Courtwatch, a group that looks out for victims.

Massey, 25, has been arrested more than a dozen times since 2015, but almost all of his charges have been dismissed.

"An individual like this has obviously learned that the system is not going to hold him accountable for what he does,” Jones said.

The majority of Massey's dismissals are for minor offenses, including traffic violations. He was ticketed once for doing 100 in a 45 mph zone.

Some of his offenses are more serious, which include robbery with a dangerous weapon, misdemeanor child abuse, assault by pointing a gun, domestic violence and carrying a concealed weapon.

"Kentrell is a pretty nice guy. He seems happy all the time,” said one of Massey’s friends who didn’t want to be identified.

Some of Massey’s serious charges were dismissed.

"Some of these charges, as far as I’m concerned, was pushed way over the line,” Jones said.

Massey has 19 pending cases, including some from this month.
