Man killed after tractor-trailer, truck collide, officials said

LANCASTER, S.C. — A man died in a crash Sunday morning near Lancaster, according to officials.

The crash involved a pickup truck and a tractor-trailer. It happened at 6:35 a.m. on Highway 521 near the Elgin Fire Department.

South Carolina Highway Patrol said a driver of a Ford truck went left of center and hit an International box truck, driven by George Vela, head on.

Vela, who was wearing a seat belt, was injured and taken to a hospital. The driver of the Ford, who was also wearing a seat belt, was killed. A portion of Highway 521 was shut down after the wreck.
