CHARLOTTE, N.C. - A man was robbed at gunpoint Thursday while he was trying to sell his Play Station 4 through the Letgo app.
Marc Gordiano, of Gastonia, met up with the buyer at 11:30 a.m. in a west Charlotte neighborhood to sell the gaming platform for cash to help pay rent.
The buyer and a friend said they needed more cash from an ATM, so they got into Gordiano’s car.
“They jump in my car and said: ‘I have $500. I have to go to the bank to get more money.”
The exchange turned into an armed robbery inside of the car.
“Then the guy behind me, sitting behind me, pulls a gun and puts it to my neck, and says, ‘Hey, give me all your stuff,’” Gordiano said.
The armed robbery turned into an assault after that.
“He ends up punching me in the right side of the face,” Gordiano said. “He ends up taking the gun, which was black and pink, and he ends up pistol-whipping me in the head. Here's the scar, right here.”
The attackers stole his phone, the PS4 and gaming accessories.
The thieves took what they wanted and fled.
Gordiano was bleeding and didn’t know where he was at.
He flagged someone down for help, and they escorted him to a police station.
“It’s wild," he said. “People can be kind. That’s why I give people the benefit of the doubt. I believe every person has a good heart.”
They used lost mode on the phone, which gave police an address of where it could be.
Gordiano’s advice is if anyone is meeting someone up for an online sale, do it at a gas station or police station.
Also, if someone doesn’t want to meet up in a well-lit, public place, abort the sale.
