2nd arrest made in connection with Rowan County country store robbery

ROWAN COUNTY, N.C. — With numerous tips from the public, investigators have located and arrested the man they suspect committed recent armed robberies in Salisbury and China Grove.

Spencer Vann Botteon, 20, robbed Pop’s Country Store Wednesday on Highway 601 in western Rowan County, police said. Joseph Kent Waddell, 22, was also arrested. Authorities said he drove the vehicle in the Pop's robbery.

The Sheriff’s Office obtained a warrant to arrest Botteon on suspicion of robbery with a dangerous weapon.

A K-9 led officers to an area where the robber fled in a vehicle.

Earlier in the day, the Ruscho on Jake Alexander Boulevard near Interstate 85 was also robbed. Authorities said. Van Botteon is also the suspect in that robbery.

Botteon received a $75,000 secured bond.  Waddell received a $25,000 bond.
