Man who shot girlfriend's son dies after shooting himself

NEWTON, N.C. — A man who shot his girlfriend's son, then himself has died.
 
Christopher Davis began arguing with his girlfriend on Friday and fired at least two shots, according to Newton police.
 
An 8-year-old child was shot in the hand. Police said Davis shot himself in front of the house on North Ervin Avenue.
 
Police said Davis was a convicted felon who never should have had a gun.
