CHARLOTTE, N.C. — The man who shot and killed a cook and injured a customer during a robbery at a south Steak ‘n Shake restaurant in 2019 will spend at least 30 years in prison.
Eddie Doh pleaded guilty Thursday morning to second-degree murder, attempted murder and assault on a police officer.
The plea deal comes nearly two years after Doh shot and killed restaurant employee Darnell Harris, 48, during a hold up at the Steak ‘n Shake on South Boulevard near Westinghouse Boulevard.
Doh also shot a customer, 53-year-old Robbie Carpenter Jr., several times. Carpenter survived the shooting.
Harris was a long-time employee of the restaurant and prosecutors said he heroically stepped in between Doh and other employees when he was shot.
“My brother gave his life as a hero and we’re going to honor that because there could’ve been more lives that could’ve been taken,” Harris’ brother Brendan Ruffin said.
Before he was led out of court, Doh apologized to Harris’ family and asked for their forgiveness.
“I heard the words but it’s just too close to me. That’s my brother,” Ruffin said.
