MATTHEWS, N.C. — A Matthews officer chased a woman in his police cruiser and then on foot after she refused to stop Friday night, officials said.

Melinda Scrofani, 38, is charged with felony fleeing to elude, aggressive driving and resisting, obstructing and/or delaying an officer.

Scrofani led an officer on a 3-mile chase in her car around 10:30 p.m. near Chambers Drive and then got out and tried to run away, according to authorities.

Police eventually caught Scrofani, and she was taken to Novant Health Matthews Medical Center for an evaluation.
