Mayor Foxx reads to south Charlotte elementary school students

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Some Charlotte elementary school students had a special guest drop by their classroom on Tuesday.

Charlotte Mayor Anthony Foxx spent the morning reading to fifth-graders at McKee Road Elementary School.

The event was part of the school's second annual Celebrity Read-in Day.

The mayor said he loves having these opportunities with Charlotte's youth.

"Give them the confidence that leaders gave me when I was growing up here that they can do anything, they can be what they want to be. That's what it's all about," Foxx said.

Foxx decided to read the book,  "The Mitten."
