Meck. Co. sheriff honors officers who completed nationally recognized mental health training

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Mecklenburg County Sheriff Irwin Carmichael announced the graduation of Platoon 1801 and recognized detention officers who completed the American Correctional Association's Correctional Behavioral Health Certification.

The training provides Mecklenburg County detention officers with the tools to properly assess and respond to individuals with mental illness.

Platoon 1801 spent the past 10 weeks taking part in intense mental and physical training to prepare for their first day on the job as detention officers with the Mecklenburg County Sheriff's Office.

The graduation ceremony took place Thursday at First Baptist Church in uptown Charlotte.
