CHARLOTTE, N.C. — A male teenager was taken to a hospital after an officer-involved shooting, according to Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department.
Charlotte-Mecklenburg police Chief Rodney Monroe said police were first called to a teen party around 8:30 p.m. Saturday at 901 North Tryon Street.
A person at the party told police some teens were not allowed inside and they may have guns.
Around 8:42 p.m., police were called to the 1300 or 1400 block of North Tryon for a shots fired call.
When an officer responded, he encountered a group of 10 to 15 people. A teenager in the group had a gun, Monroe said.
The officer told the teen to drop the gun, but the teenager ignored the commands. The officer then fired three or four shots, Monroe said. The teenager was hit in the lower leg and wrist.
The teenager was taken to Carolinas Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries.
The officer was taken as a precaution to Novant Health Presbyterian.
Quinichett has been placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of the shooting investigation. Quinichett has been employed with the CMPD since April 29, 2013, and is currently assigned to the Metro Division.
