CMPD: 1 hospitalized after hit by car near Providence HS

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Emergency officials were on the scene of a 3-vehicle crash near Providence High School early Tuesday morning.

Paramedics told Channel 9 that they rushed one person -- who police initially said was a student -- to Novant Presbyterian with non life-threatening injuries following the collision in the 1800 block of Pineville-Matthews Road around 6:40 a.m.

Officers later told Channel 9 that they released incorrect information and that the person hit by a car was actually someone involved in the initial wreck who had gotten out of his car and was then struck.

Eastbound lanes of Highway 51 were briefly closed while police investigated the crash.
