Metal detectors to be added to all Hickory Public Schools

HICKORY, N.C. — Metal detectors are being added to all Hickory Public Schools district-wide.

Last year, the school board voted to spend $350,000 on detectors for all nine schools. These detectors are similar to systems you would see at sporting events and concerts, electronics have to be removed before the student walks through.

Channel 9′s Dave’s Faherty went to Hickory High School and spoke with Hickory Schools Superintendent Dr. Bryan Taylor who wants to keep his school as safe as possible.

“School shootings continue to take in our country. There was a shooting a few weeks ago in Newport News, Virginia. We continue to have some issues in our community that involve young people and I wanted to make sure we are taking every step possible to make our schools as safe as possible,” said Taylor.
