Monroe police investigate after man found shot at home

MONROE, N.C. — Monroe Police are looking for a killer, after neighbors say they found a 62-year-old-man dead Saturday inside his apartment on Riverside Lane.

It's the city's first homicide of the year.

Neighbors said they hadn't seen Jimmie Taylor for a few days and they were concerned because they believed he was home. They banged on his door several times, finally kicked it in, and found Taylor lying on the floor, dead from a gunshot wound.

Neighbors were too scared to reveal their identities when they spoke Monday night with Eyewitness News.

They can't believe anyone would want to hurt Taylor.

They said Taylor's doors and windows were all locked, which made it difficult for them to get inside.

A neighbor who found him said he heard a door slam and a loud crash at the home the night before.

"I got up, came to the door and looked and listened, but I didn't see anything," he said.

So far, Monroe police have no suspects in this case.
