Channel 9's South Carolina bureau reporter, Greg Suskin, learned the family had lived in the home on Rowells Road in Catawba for 14 years.

Homeowner Morrison Belk said his wife screamed at him to wake up when the fire erupted and they met his daughter and two grandkids on the stairs heading down.

"At first I thought I was dreaming when my wife was screaming," Belk said.

Belk told Channel 9 his daughter was burned by the flames as she escaped through the front door and his 5-year-old grandson is being treated for smoke inhalation.

"It wasn't a dream, it was a nightmare is what it really was -- a living nightmare," Belk said.

He tried to fight the fire himself once the family escaped.

"I had the water hose out,” Belk said. “I was trying to put some of the fire out and after a while, you realize that you're not going to be able to do anything with it."

Officials said the entire family was treated at a hospital as a precaution, but they are expected to be OK.

"It's just so much I thank God for.  For letting us get out of there. I'm glad my wife was able to holler loud enough to get me up out of that bed last night," Belk said.

The family lost everything in the fire but told Channel 9 that friends, neighbors and the Red Cross have stepped in to help.

An electrical fire near the porch caused the destruction, the fire marshal said.

The Lesslie Fire Department said the house is a total loss.
