Mother of rape suspect says she broke down when she heard charges

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — The mother of a rape suspect is apologizing to his alleged victim.

Police arrested 16-year-old Davious Boyd and 17-year-old Damario Coxton on Thursday.

Police said the teens broke into a northwest Charlotte home Wednesday night and robbed and raped the woman inside.

Her 3-year-old daughter was in the next room.

Coxton's mother told Eyewitness News she broke down when police told her the charges against her son.

"What if somebody broke in here and did me like that?" Wanda Coxton asked, thinking of her son. "I'm a mom, just like she's (a) mom."

Both suspects are due in court next week.
