Mother stabs daughter during altercation in Gaston County

GASTON COUNTY, N.C. — A mother stabbed her daughter during an altercation Wednesday afternoon in Gaston County, police said.

Courtney Marshal visited her mother at Juwan Tyner's home on Seigle Avenue.

Tyner came home and Marshal and her mother were fighting in the living room. That’s when police said the mother, Sheila Marshal, stabbed her daughter twice in the side.

"Courtney had several places on her arm where she was cut up," Tyner said. "Courtney hollered (that) she had a knife."

Tyner said he didn't know why the women were fighting or why it got so intense.

The daughter ran out of the house and managed to get to another apartment about 50 yards away before she collapsed.

Her mother followed her and stopped at Alexander Adams' door.

"(The mother came) down here and told me to call 911, but I didn't know what had happened," Adams said.

Courtney Marshal was bleeding when she fell against a glass door on the front porch.

She was taken to the hospital and police later arrested her mother.

Sheila Marshal is in jail under a $10,000 bond, charged with assault with a deadly weapon.

Her daughter's injuries are not life-threatening, officials said.
