Mothers fight at Gastonia school bus stop, police say

GASTONIA, N.C. — A Gastonia mother is facing charges after police said she attacked another mother early Monday morning at their children’s bus stop while elementary students waited for the bus.

An argument between the two mothers escalated when they walked their children to the bus stop on Beachwood Drive, police said.

The accuser, who didn't want to be identified, said Tiffany Lipscomb ripped hair from her scalp.

"(She) had me all the way down to the ground like that, and just bam, bam," the woman said.

Her 6-year-old son cried as he watched his mother punched so many times that she had to go to the hospital.

The accuser thought Lipscomb's daughter had bullied her 6- and 9-year-old sons at school.

She said Lipscomb decided that the parents should settle it Monday morning and attacked her from behind as she tried to walk away.

Mijai Wallace was taking her son to the bus stop when she saw the fight and helped the woman on the ground.

"That girl would have beat her to a pulp," Wallace said.

Wallace talked to the confused children.

"(I wanted) to let them know that (people should) talk out your differences,” Wallace said. “Fighting is not the answer."

Police arrested Lipscomb for fighting and giving false information about her daughter's father, who is also accused of attacking the boys' father during the fight.

Lipscomb's accuser said she has contacted the school system and wants her two boys picked up and dropped off somewhere else.
