Mounds of yard waste piling up on curbs after COVID-19 slows down pickup

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — If you’ve got mounds of yard debris piled up by the curb, you’re definitely not alone.

Coronavirus is really slowing down the process for yard waste pickup and it can quickly add up.

The city stopped yard waste pickup indefinitely due to COVID-19, but with storms and spring trimming, it offered a one-time pickup and asked neighbors to put their bags and branches out last Monday.

Jeff Smithberger, who’s in charge of a team that breaks it all down, said they’re at least a week behind -- maybe more depending on where you live.
