NC lawmakers pass bill to create panel to research rare eye cancer cluster

HUNTERSVILLE, N.C. — More help could be on the way to find answers about the mysterious eye cancer cluster in Huntersville.

Channel 9 first broke the alarming medical mystery in 2014 and there are still no answers after five years.

Huntersville has seen more than 20 cases of ocular melanoma. The cancer normally impacts five out of a million people.

Now, state lawmakers have passed a bill creating a panel of experts to research cancer cases across the state.

The panel would come up with recommendations to address cancer clusters.

The bill is now headed to the governor's desk.
