Officials said Lumberton police Officer Jason Quick was struck by a car just before 7 a.m. Saturday while responding to a traffic accident on Interstate 95 northbound.

Quick was rushed to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Lea Quick, the victim's wife said, "The very very very last thing you want is for a police officer to show up at your door --not your husband that you've seen as a police officer, but another officer to come to tell you about your husband."

Lea Quick was too emotional to speak on camera, but she said she kissed her husband every time he left for work.
