NC program gives new opportunities to students who lost summer jobs, internships due to COVID-19

RALEIGH, N.C. — Many students have lost their summer jobs and internships because of the pandemic, but now there’s a North Carolina state program to give them new opportunities, WLOS reported.

It’s called the NC COVID-19 Student Response Corps Initiative. The program is all virtual.

It matches college students with local government offices and non-profits who need additional help to support COVID-19 response efforts.

“Some of these organizations never thought about hosting virtual interns, and this program allowed them to think about what are possible virtual projects that they could have students working from across the state,” said Theresa Cruz Paul, Western Carolina University Center for Career and Professional Development.

More than 800 college students have already been matched with opportunities.
