• DOT to study area where boy drowned to see if changes needed

    CHARLOTTE, N.C. - The North Carolina Department of Transportation is looking at the area where an 11-year-old boy drowned to determine what changes should be made.

    Randez Brown died trying to save his little sister from drowning in the creek behind Marie G. Davis Academy.   

     A 4-foot-high fence stands between the creek and the school track and football field now.

    The funeral for Randez is Saturday.

    His family will receive friends from noon to 1 p.m. at Chappell Memorial Church off Bradford Drive in northwest Charlotte.

    The funeral is at 1 p.m.
