Nearly 20 Charlotte-area restaurants receive Wine Spectator award

These Charlotte restaurants are among the best in the world when it comes to wine, according to Wine Spectator.

That publication named 17 area restaurants to its 2021 Restaurant Awards list, which recognizes eateries with extraordinary wine lists. This year’s awards program recognized 2,917 dining destinations from all 50 states and more than 72 countries.

“It’s been a long road back, and it feels wonderful to celebrate restaurants and all they bring to the world of wine,” says Marvin Shanken, editor and publisher.

Wine Spectator began its program to recognize the world’s best wine lists in 1981. Winners were named in three categories, broken down by the variety of vintages or wine regions.

Eight Charlotte-area restaurants nabbed a spot in the Best of Award of Excellence category — gaining recognition for having 350 or more selections that represent a variety of vintages or wine regions. Nine local restaurants received the Award of Excellence, which recognizes establishments with at least 90 wine selections.
